I. General conditions

  • The International Print Biennial 2018 is a competitive event.
  • The Contest is open to professional artists and students in their final two years of art school.
  • The Winners of the Contest will take part in the Post-Competition Exhibition of the International Biennale of Graphic Art Łódź 2018.
  • Artworks may be made with the use of various graphic techniques, on paper. Art installations will not be accepted.
  • This is a two-stage Contest. In Stage 1 the Jury will evaluate artworks on the basis of digital reproduction. In Stage 2 the original artworks will be evaluated by the Jury.
  • Each Participant may submit maximum 3 artworks to the Contest.
  • Each artwork can be no longer than 150 cm long, and no smaller than 20cm x 20cm. The minimal dimensions refer to print size.
  • Artworks made in the period from 2015 to 2017 will be qualified to the Contest.
  • During the opening of the main exhibition the Participants will be given free catalogues. The catalogue will be sent to the address given in the application form at the expense of the Organizer.
  • Submitting an application form to the Contest is equivalent to:
    • Granting the Organizer of the Contest the right to use artworks sent by the Participants in the Internet, in publications, in prints, and in any other forms needed for the purpose of the 2nd International Print Biennial Łódź 2018.
    • Giving a consent to the processing of personal data of the Participant of the Contest according to the Article 24 of the Polish Act on Personal Data Protection of 29th August 1997. Personal data of the Participants of the Contest will be stored and processed at the Organizer’s office for the purpose of the Contest Regulations and sending advertising materials and information concerning consecutive editions of the Contest. Each Participant owns the right to access their personal data and make corrections.
  • Each Participant of the Exhibition will receive a diploma as a proof of participation in the Exhibition of the International Print Biennial Łódź 2018.
  • The Organizer reserves the right to make possible modification in the Regulations and publish it on the Contest site.
  • The Organizer reserves the right to cancel contest in case of insufficient number of participants.

III. Applying for Stage 2 of the Contest

  • Stage 2 aims at choosing the Post-Contest Exhibition Participants and nominating the Contest Winners.
  • Original paper artworks will be evaluated by the Jury appointed by the Organizer at the second stage of the Contest.
  • There is a participation fee in Stage 2 of the Contest.
  • Artworks qualified to Stage 2 of the Contest should be sent to the Organizer’s address at the seller’s expense.
  • Please send artworks not earlier than 01.07.2017 to deadline - 15.09.2017, as per the postmark.
  • The package should be labelled with “2. Międzynarodowe Biennale Grafiki Łódź 2018”, marked “No commercial value”. Whether necessary, labels are to be downloaded on printbienniallodz.com
  • Artworks sent to the Contest should be accompanied by:
    • Filled application form with a signature and confirmation of authorship of an artwork with participant’s statement concerning their agreement or disagreement to give their artworks to the collection of the International Print Biennial Lodz.
    • Payment receipt.
    • Each participant will receive individual registration number on e-mail, which must be enclosed with the form.
  • The Organizer is not liable for any damage to the package caused during transport resulting from defective packing made by the seller.
  • Customs duties are paid by the participant.
  • Each participant will be informed by e-mail about the admission to the post-competition exhibition. The list of participants qualified to participate in the post-competition exhibition will also be published on the competition page until 25.10.2017
  • Each participant who donate his artwork to the collection will receive for free catalogue with reproduction of his artwork. Artworks of artists who not qualified for the post-competition exhibition will be included in the catalogue.

      This point in rules works in case of participants who have not qualified for the final exhibition. It means that fee cover costs of sending back artists prints or sending catalogue - overall costs of sending catalogues will be much expensive because the catalogue of the 2nd biennial edition will be heavier and it will contain more pages (about: 252 pages.) In the catalogue we will print artworks which was qualified for the final exhibition, artworks from International Print Biennial Lodz Collection (Collection contains donated artworks and these from accompanying exhibitions) and all artworks which were send for the second stage too.
  • Decisions of the Jury are final and irrevocable.

IV. Participation fee.

  • In order to have the artworks qualified to Stage 2 accepted, the Participant shall pay the fee.
  • The fee for Stage 2 is 95 PLN for participants from Poland and 50 EURO for participants from abroad.
  • Payment should be made to the Organizer’s bank account:

  • Payment can be made:
    • To the Organizer’s bank account.
    • Via PayPal using This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Lack of a payment receipt will cause rejection of an artwork, which then becomes a property of the Organizer.

V. Prizes

  • Main Prize - 4000 zł
  • Second Prize - 3000 zł
  • Second Prize - 2000 zł
  • Special Award - 1000 zł
  • 7 Honour Prizes
  • Solo Exhibition with the catalogue.
  • The Organizer provides funded prizes.
  • The Winners of the Contest will be informed by the Jury via e-mail.
  • The Winners awarded by the Jury will be given their Prizes during the grand opening. If the Winner is absent, the prize will be sent by post with his works.
  • The winning artworks presented at the Post-Contest Exhibition become a property of the Organizer.

VI. Return of artworks

  • Each artwork will be sent back at the expense of the Organizer.
    • Artworks not qualified for the post-competition exhibition will be sent until 31.12.2017
    • Artworks from the post-contest exhibition will be sent after the finishage of the exhibition, up to 30.09.2018
  • Artworks will be returned to the address given in an application form by the Participant of the Contest, in the original package or in tubes.
  • The Organizer is not liable for any damage to the package caused during transport. The Organizer does not provide the insurance for the packages with artworks.
